Dr Michael Hanrahan has worked as a GP at Rainbow Medical Centre St Helens since 1987. He started a clinic for people with diabetes within the practice, which was one of the first in St Helens.
In 1992, Dr Hanrahan was approved as a trainer of general practitioners and has trained over 15 new doctors. He regularly is asked to assess other practices and doctors who are or wish to become trainers. He was organiser of the GP vocational training scheme at Whiston Hospital and helps recruit suitable doctors to become GPs. |

Recognizing the need to improve end of life care, Dr Hanrahan has worked at Willowbrook Hospice since 1998, providing care at the hospice and support to doctors and nurses in the community.
At Rainbow Medical Centre, Dr Hanrahan is the lead for GP training, diabetes, renal impairment, palliative care, drug abuse, prescribing, finance and staffing. For St Helens PCT, he appraises GPs for their annual assessment. |
